24hr LED light. Need to make one that would last 24hrs on one charge.. What batterys would i use?

I need to make a small led light, Something that had a few Ultra Bright LEDS with a switch and a Battery Pack.
It would need to last as long as possible on one charge.
Does anyone have any guides or ideas how to do this..?
The light doesnt have to be bright,, but just broght enough to be seen. Its to put on a bouy so it can be seen at night..

The typical Red Led requires 1.5 to 1.75V to light and will draw a max of 20ma. You can use less current as a design criteria to extend the life of the battery. Brightness is not significantly reduced with lower current operation until you drop below 15ma or so. You can easitly experiment with different current levels to adjust the brightness
LED’s need to operate with a limited amount of current flow (20ma max). THis is done by adding a resistor in series to limit the current.
The size of this resistor is determined by the amount of excess voltage applied (how much is above 1.5 – 1.75 V ) and the current flow desired . Using Ohms law (R = E/I) the resistro value is computed and the nearest value that can be obtained is used.
Two 1.5V batterites in series for 3V supply to power a 1.5V LED.
3v – 1.5v(LED) = 1.5V to drop across the series resistor
Lets use 10ma LED current( 1000 ma = 1 A so 10ma = .010A
1.5 / .010 = 150 Ohms
EDIT:
Another alternative to a constant ON LED is to use a flasher. The idea here is to use very little current when the LED is off and then breifly turin the LED on at its 20ma full brigtness.

Another way to save power is to use a circuit that will turn the LED off when its light. So you only run the LED at night.
