What do YOU want in a Daycare Provider?
According to my last question 11 out of 12 people would use me as a daycare provider. So I’ve decided to get lisenced(waiting on a call back, so excited
). What sort of things would you like to see in your ideal daycare providers home? Down to every little detail. I was thinking obvious things like a stool in the bathroom and a toothbrush for each child. But what about things like naptime, should every child have their own pak n play or what do older children sleep in, I have one crib, 1 pak and play, 1 highchair(can be converted to booster seat), 2 individual strollers, I have gates and plenty of toys. What other things would make you, as a parent and client, happy to see in a providers home? What sort of things will DCFS look for, and want me to have? Thanks for all your help!
Additional Details
I alone will be providing daycare in my home. I will not be accepting more than 4-5 children, depending on age and how much attention each child needs.
Have a packet available to potential parents. Include in there a note from your dr that you are physically capable of dealing with the stress and that you are disease free. I know this may sound odd, but I paid for my last day care provider to go to my dr and get checked out. When I asked her to do it, she said it wasn’t the first time she’d been asked, and it was not big deal.
Also, have references, emergency contact numbers, and all the forms for the parent to fill out. If your city or state licenses daycare providers, have a copy in the packet.
When it was in-home daycare, I was expected to provide a portable crib for my daugher along with 2 changes of clothing, a sleeping buddy, blankets and sheets. I was also expected to provide two towels and 6 washclothes. She was responsible for washing the supplies.
She had tons of books for all ages. Also, one of the things I always looked for were the safety features. Do the sockets have covers, do the cabinets have locks, were chems kept locked away from the kids? Where there dogs or animals?
My last provider, who I missed terribly when she moved also had a video camera, a polaroid and a digital camera. Every Friday I got either a video or photo of my darling daughter along with at least two pieces of “art”.
Something else she provided was a written daily progress report, it was just check marks but it kind of like this:
Breakfast None Little HUNGRY
We ate: ____________________ (this was typed in the nite before)
Playtime group shy bully
naptime no problem lots of crying no sleep
Slept approx ____________ (she’d fill in blanks)
Finally, no one will expect your house to be spotless but make sure you keep it clean. A parent doesn’t want to see breakfast dishes sitting on the counter when the pick up their kids in the evening.
GOOD LUCK
